11. Industry-University-Government Collaboration - Ⅰ. Joint Collaborative Research and Funded Research

  1. Under 1,000 JPY, sums are rounded down. Nationwide does not include junior colleges, vocational colleges, technical colleges and research institutes.
  2. "Joint Collaborative Research" refers to research jointly by a university or similar institution and  private organizations, etc., in which necessary project expenses incurred by the university, etc. are covered by the private organization, etc.
  3. “Income from Joint Collaborative Research with the Private Sector Nationwide” is rounded down to under 1 million JPY. “Income per Project from Joint Collaborative Research with the Private Sector Nationwide” is rounded down to under 1,000 JPY. “Income per Project from Joint Collaborative Research with the Private Sector Nationwide” excludes institutions with less than 10 projects.
  4. Comparing with 9 Designated National University Corporations (excluding Hitotsubashi University and Tokyo Medical and Dental University) as well as Hokkaido University. Under 1 million JPY, sums are rounded.
  5. The main reason for the increase in 2015: The Japan Agency for Medical Research and Development (AMED) was established on 1st April 2015, and because AMED was in charge of managing the respective life science research support projects carried at each ministry, the support system that had been in place until 2014 was switched to a commissioned project (funded research at Kyushu University).
  6. "Funded Research" refers to research to a university by a private sector company, etc., in which, in most cases, the university, etc. alone conducts the research and development, with the expenses incurred being covered by the private organization, etc.
  7. “Income per Project from Research Funded by the Private Sector” does not include institutions with less than 10 projects.
