The Kyushu University Office of Institutional Research was established in April 2016 to take the initiative in promoting university reforms and improvements based on the evidence; a wide range of scrutinized, quantitative and qualitative data on research and education that are credible and objective, as well as the analysis results of such data. We also carry out corporate evaluations to assess the progress in implementing midterm goals and plans, as well as certified evaluation and accreditation to ensure the quality of education. Presenting evidence-based plans for improving and reforming the university is intended to develop a common understanding of its needs among university staff members, while gaining their consensus and speedy implementation of these plans.

Thus, one of our most important duties is to collect and accumulate a wide range of scrutinized, quantitative and qualitative data on research and education that are credible and objective. In doing so, it is important for us to compile the latest data from all university departments according to clear definitions and classifications. Once this task is completed, the next step is to analyze the data and then convert not only the compiled data but also the analysis results into reference materials that can facilitate university reforms and improvements. We must identify the optimal materials for assessing the need for reforms and improvements, designing appropriate plans, and enhancing the understanding of university staff members.

The Office of Institutional Research is currently endeavoring to establish a system for collecting and releasing data, reviewing the components of the Kyushu University Researcher's Activity Developments & Reports System (Q-RADeRS) and its links with external data for upgrading, and working to introduce and promote the use of research analysis tools. Moreover, we present key performance indicators for all policies and data analysis results by theme at the IR Strategy Support Meeting held roughly every two months, thereby pushing forward the university’s reforms and improvements. We also hope to cooperate with and receive feedback from the entire university in order to enhance our evaluation and university reforms and improvement support functions.
