Industry-Academia-Government Collaboration: Intellectual Property

Notes

  1. "Number of patent licenses and other exploitation cases" and "Patent licensing and related revenue" refer to the number of patents licensed or transferred (including rights to obtain patents) and the revenue generated from such transactions, respectively.

  2. The significant increase in 2020 was mainly due to a major patent licensing agreement with a foreign pharmaceutical company involving anticancer drug discovery technology. A major agreement involving materials-related patents also contributed to the increase. In recent years, the growing number of spin-offs from Kyushu University has also contributed to an increase in patent licensing cases.

  3. "University Spin-Offs" refers to businesses established based on patents naming university faculty, staff, or students as inventors, or businesses founded by university-affiliated personnel, among other cases.
